How to add motion blur to your Webtoon’s art
This is one of the most useful webtoon tricks I use all the time in my action Webtoons. Linked below is the original Twitter post where I learned this technique. I decided to make a blog post about it too so I can remember all the steps better, and I hope this helps you too.
Steps
- Create a new layer above the art
- Use a soft airbrush with white
- Paint where you want to create the motion
- Select the whole layer with ctrl + click
How to do this on iPad
If you want to move to a specific layer without opening the layer palette,
Look at the toolbar and find the tool called Operations and select it. (The icon looks like three diamonds are stacked.) The tool name appears on the mouse with the mouse.
Then look at the Sub Tool Palette.
With the [Object] or [Select Layer] tool inside, click the line on the canvas or try dragging on it.
All layers included in the clicked or dragged area are selected.
If you use it frequently, you may want to register [Select Layer] in the command bar.
- Hide that layer
- Select your art
- Add the motion blur filter > blur > motion blur
- Unselect the selection
