The State of Things | Edition #3: July 2023

The State of Things is a monthly blog post where I talk about how my life is going. I write these posts to keep myself accountable for the goals I set myself. Be them business goals or personal goals or life goals. You’ll find me talking a bit about anything and everything here.

What’s Been on My Mind

Concept 1: New passions

I’ve fallen in and out of love with art since I was 13 years old (10 whole years ago). Once upon a time it was something I did everyday that I would be sad if I didn’t go without. But today, my life’s calendar has been so cluttered with typical “adult” things - like my day job, new friends, taxes, house hunting… its been impossible for me to find the time to love my art again.
I love it, yet I hate it. I love thinking about creating and that spark of epiphany you get when you see a new piece that really inspires you. But when it comes to sitting down and creating that work I’ve so lovingly curated in my head… I just can’t get my self to do it anymore. Something inside me is either broken, or irreversibly changed. I happy to say I think its the latter.
I’ve decided to put a indefinite hold on calling drawing my “passion”. Frankly, it hasn’t been for a long while. So, as it stands, I’ve got an empty spot in my heart for a new hobby (and hopefully one day, passion).

Alternative passions I’m exploring

Here are some alternative loves and interests that I’ve wanted to explore, in order of how interested I am to explore the,.
  • Singing - When I was a child, I had a really beautiful voice. I would get solo’s in our elementary school choir. I want to start signing again and in two capacities.
      1. A choir - I want to join a choir (not religiously affiliated) and learn how to sing in harmony.
      1. Vtuber song covers - I want to make and post covers on YouTube as a vtuber, mostly of anime songs. I even have a Spotify playlist called “Songs I would cover if I could sing” that I add songs that I think would suit me. Here’s a vtuber cover I’ve been listening to on repeat lately. 【Sonny Brisko/fanmade mix】KICK BACK - YouTube
  • Writing - Welcome | NaNoWriMo. Creative writing, comic writing, script writing, all of it is a pretty much untapped world for me that seems really intriguing. It lets me create images in the heads of my viewers/reader but in a whole totally different way. That being said, writing is a pretty different skill set than visual art, so I look forward to learning what this subject has to offer. Inspirations: Merryweather, Brandon Sanderson.
  • Cooking - One of my greatest daydreams or you could say delusions is to host dinner parties one day. Especially the themed ones that are hosted by candle light. I want ones that are fairy, art Nouveau, movie, period, queer history, anything and everything themed. I just need my own place to do it first. (No chance in hell I’m hosting at my parent’s house).

Concept 2: Monthly accountability

I’m making this check in a monthly blog post now. I have a Notion template about daily themes… Day Themes Notion Template
The best part of doing monthly checkins is by far the monthly wins section. In that part od the monthly review I look back back at all my completed tasks for the month and at my daily gratitudes Mood & Gratitude Tracker to scope out what I consider to be the highlights of my month.

I do a monthly review every month.
  • but lately I’ve been slacking on the tasks portion of it……
    • I don’t have a visible place for my monthly tasks. Or at least the tasks are ones that scare me

Concept 3: After 6 months… a house!!!

I have one 😭. The housing market is absolute trash right now. I’m going to keep you all posted on what I’m doing to update and rennovate it. I was able to get this one because its a little run down and the A/C was broken so it doesn't show as well. I’m looking forward to making it up and making it my own! I even started a Pinterest board for decorating it. I
I’m going for an organic, cozy, and comfortable vibe. I want to stick to light colors and light woods. With lots of ambient lighting and natural forms in lights, mirrors, tables, lamps, and paintings.
